Remember

In Ethiopia when couples decide to get married they pick a Bible verse that means something to them or what pretty much sums their wedding day to be remembered as. Then they put that verse on their wedding invitation for everyone to see. As far as I know this is practiced in most evangelical churches. So when it was time for Thomas and I to get married we discussed what this verse was going to be for us and we decided on this one.
“Not a single one of all the good promises the LORD had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.”Joshua 21:45 NLT
We wanted to proclaim that God who was faithful to the house of Jacob is the one who brought us together. He is faithful to the new house that we are about to establish in His name. We both have stories of God’s faithfulness in our past individual lives. This verse was very important to me. I was holding tight onto God’s promises as I was preparing to leave my family, friends and everything I knew to a new world I’ve never seen. I needed to remember who God is for me. All of scriptures tell us that He is a God who fulfills His promises whether in this side of life or in eternity with Him. The Joshua verse is just one example written to remind us that God is worthy to be fully believed and trusted. I hate to admit that though I know this to be true, I don’t always remember it. When uncertainty is all around me I often forget that God is in control. I think this is why in the Old Testament we see repeatedly that God wants the Israelites to remember who He is and what He has done for them and their ancestors. Just like me they forget the moment they hit another roadblock. So God commands them again and again to remember and also to tell their next generation what God has done for them.
I don’t know what you’re struggling with. It might be number of things. What are you finding hard to trust God for? What in your life is making it difficult to remember God’s faithfulness? I know it’s not easy.
Today I was reminded of God’s promise by my mother while I was sharing with her a concern I had. If you’re struggling share with someone you trust that will remind you of God’s promises and faithfulness in your life. Don’t do this by yourself. I want to encourage you to look into God’s word first and then look into your life where you’ve seen Him before. Talk with people around you who can remind you of this truth when you can’t. You are not alone. Today let me be the one voice to remind you this.
The one you worship; His name is God! And His character is Faithfulness!!
